An Avon man has been charged with assaulting a Livingston County deputy as he tried to investigate a fatal car crash in Geneseo.
Sheriff Thomas Dougherty and Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganin say Michael Bellonte has been charged with second degree assault, obstructing government administration and harassment.
The crash last month killed 74-year-old Donald Lackey of Geneseo. Bellonte’s car rear-ended Lackey’s car, driving it into an iron fence beside the road.
The first deputy to arrive on scene spotted Bellonte walking away from the crash and tried to speak with him. Bellonte allegedly punched the deputy in the face and tried to get away.
The crash remains under investigation.
