A generator running on a second floor porch sparked a fire early Thursday morning in a house on Athens Street.
The occupants told fire investigators they had found a small fire on the porch about 3:00 a.m. and put it out, but shortly after 4:00 a.m. found the second floor and attic in flames. They were able to rescue their dog and get out of the house before fire crews arrived.
The Red Cross was assisting the occupants.
