State Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb was charged with DWI on New Year’s Eve in Victor. According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Kolb’s state-issued SUV missed the turn onto the service road to reach his home, and went into a ditch.
Kolb said said he made a “terrible lapse in judgement,” and did what he’s urged others not to do…and that “I take full responsibility for it.” Kolb wrote an article on Christmas Eve about the importance of getting a designated driver while celebrating.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says the Republican Assemblyman was involved in a single-vehicle crash on County Road 41 in Victor about 10:27 PM on December 31st. The 67-year-old Assemblyman was taken into custody after an investigation, charged with making an unsafe turn and DWI with a BAC over .08%. Nobody was hurt in the crash.
Assemblyman Kolb will be returned to Victor Town Court to face the charges.
In a statement, Kolb said he offers sincere apologies to his family, friends, colleagues and the people of the 131st Assembly District. He says “I fully recognize the severity of the situation and am profoundly sorry.”
