The Bronson and Barnhart campaigns have each accused the other of lying over their final campaign messages in the 138th Assembly District Democratic Primary.
Rachel Barnhart says a Harry Bronson mailer claims she took a loan from a Republican operative and accepted the endorsement of conservative radio host Bob Lonsberry. Barnhart says she appeared on the Lonsberry show when invited but was never endorsed by Lonsberry. She says she hired the “operative”–who has also worked for Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren — to print her campaign mailers and certainly did not receive a loan from him.
Barnhart retaliated with a radio spot that calls Bronson “guilty of lying” about her and says the matter is being given to the Monroe County Fair Campaign Practices Committee.
Democratic Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle complains these ads are themselves misleading – – because they’re worded to make it sound as though the Fair Campaign Committee has declared Bronson guilty of something when they haven’t even held a hearing on Barnhart’s complaint.
Barnhart says the ads are correct because they never say the committee called her opponent a liar; she’s the one doing that.
