Rochester Police made a total of 20 arrests Sunday night following the end of the annual Puerto Rican festival in, an occasion on which some young people hold impromptu parades, ride on top of cars and congregate on the streets of Northeast Rochester once the family-friendly festival closes down.
Police say some individuals “decided to exercise poor judgement” and they monitored and responded to a number of locations on North Clinton Avenue and other major roads through that area. They say rocks and bottles were thrown at officers at times and the Rochester Fire Department put out small fires set in garbage cans at a couple of locations.
Police wore riot gear and a New York State Police helicopter was used to monitor the area.
A number of the arrests were for riding unlicensed ATVs and dirt bikes on city streets. All those arrested will be arraigned in City Court Monday morning.
