A Rochester 20-year-old has been charged with damaging a city fire truck and injuring a firefighter during a protest that turned into a riot in May of 2020.

Rochester Police and the Rochester Arson Task Force charged the man with rioting, assault and criminal mischief. They say the man used a metal object to damage a Rochester fire truck after climbing on its bumper as it attempted to move through the crowd. Firefighters were responding to fires that had been set near the Public Safety Building. He also injured a firefighter with the same object.

The suspect is being held in the Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment.
