Rochester police have made an arrest in a February hit-and-run that killed a woman on Clifford Avenue.
They’ve charged 32-year-old Steven Cheeks Jr. with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, insurance fraud, evidence tampering and making a punishable written statement.
Police were called to the 200 block of Clifford Avenue on the night of February 12. They found 52-year-old Yoeun Nhong lying in the road with serious injuries. She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital but died shortly after arrival. The RPD Major Crimes Unit says Cheeks was driving west on Clifford when he hit Nhong and failed to report the accident. He then signed a deposition falsely claiming that his car had been stolen, and made a corresponding claim to his insurance company.
Cheeks has been arraigned in Rochester City Court.
