Brighton police say they’ve made an arrest in last week’s fatal hit-and-run and Highland and Council Rock Avenues.
They arrested 24-year-old Angelina Griffin and charged her with second degree murder. She’s being held in the Monroe County Jail as she was on parole from convictions on robbery and attempted robbery charges.
Police Chief David Catholid said the area where the accident occurred is a walkable neighborhood with many runners. says the incident was a deliberate act. He says Griffin sped down Highland at 60 miles an hour and intentionally struck 34-year-old Omar Coker. Griffin fled the scene. Police later found the black sedan on Illinois Street in Rochester. They made the arrest on Monday.
Police say multiple witnesses saw the incident and led them to the car shortly afterwards. They say the act was retribution for a robbery that took place at another location, and that the decedant had an interaction with Griiffin at an apartment complex off Highland Avenue. Griffin then chased Coker down and ran him over. Coker had a weapon and police found evidence that a robbery had just occurred. Police believe that Coker robbed Griffin and a large sum of money was involved.
U.S. Marshals and New York State and Rochester police also assisted in the investigation,
