The U.S. Attorney for Western New York plans a news
conference Wednesday
morning (10:30 am) to announce an arrest in the 2003 robbery and murder at the Xerox Federal Credit Union in Webster. Top federal prosecutors, the FBI, Webster Police and other agencies will be there.
Sources say federal authorities have charged a man named Richard Leon Wilbern, a former Xerox employee, with committing the Xerox holdup. He was arraigned in federal court Tuesday.
An African-American man wearing what appeared to be a wig and an FBI jacket entered the credit union offices just over 13 years ago. He identified himself as an FBI agent and said he was there to conduct an audit. He pulled out two guns when staff reacted suspiciously and began shooting.
Two customers were hit and one of them was killed. Authorities have been trying to track that suspect down ever since. Four months ago they announced they believed the suspect to be a man in his early-to-mid 40s from the Niagara Falls area, but with ties to Rochester.
