An anti-flood dam requested by the Town of Greece has been delivered, and is being installed along Old Edgmere Drive on the shore of Lake Ontario.
The aqua dam was installed at that location last year after the record spring water levels caused flooding all along the shoreline. Water ran through a low-lying vacant property there and flooded out the road. The aqua-dam is something like a giant inner tube that’s put in position, then pumped full of water to form a dam. Supervisor Bill Reilich says it worked last year, protecting the neighborhood from worse damage and enabling the town to keep the road mostly dry.
The New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control reinstalled the dam today with help from the Greece DPW. Reilich says if the town needs it this spring, it’ll be ready.
