Fire struck an apartment building Thursday afternoon on the 1300 block of North Clinton Avenue. Fire crews arrived shortly after 2:00 p.m. to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a second floor window.

Everyone had gotten out of the building safely by the time firefighters arrived. The flames were quickly put out, but there was extensive water damage to the building as well as heat and smoke damage.

All the occupants of the 19 apartment units have been forced out, and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
