The Rochester fire department declared a second alarm when fire hit the Seneca Manor Apartment Building on Seneca Manor Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived to find fire and smoke coming from the building’s dumpster area, with flames possibly extending to the floors above. They called the second alarm due to the risk to the occupied building. Sprinklers on the first floor activated and helped to control the fire, which was extinguished quickly.

Heavy smoke filled the first and second floors of the high rise, with lighter smoke on the upper floors. Three residents were injured, two taken to the hospital for treatment and the other treated at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
