The non-profit group founded to break the cycle of poverty in Monroe County says it’s narrowing its focus.
The Rochester-Monroe County Anti-Poverty Initiative says in its annual report it will focus on three main goals: increasing household income and improving affordability of basic needs, while also reducing the concentration of poverty in Rochester. The group says instead of starting new programs, it will focus on how to change existing systems in the community so more people can achieve a better income and quality of life.
Meanwhile, the group says it got 325 more children into existing summer learning programs in 2017 and gave out $187,000 in microloans to Rochester entrepreneurs to start or expand small businesses.
