EJ Manuel will start for the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, and  interim coach Anthony Lynn made it clear at his first news conference that it was strictly a business — not a coaching —  decision.

Tyrod Taylor was benched after possibly his best performance of the season in last weekend’s loss to Miami. Lynn first said replacing him with Manuel “was our decision,” but later told reporters he wasn’t actually in the room when the business office decided to sit Taylor out rather than risk him being injured in the last game of the season. That would trigger a $30 million guarantee for 2017.

Taylor was signed to a long-term contract extension before the start of the 2016. He joined the Bills after a strong endorsement from then-head coach Rex Ryan, who was let go yesterday.
