The transition player worked hard to return from an injury.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Knighthawks announced the 2017 winner of the team’s Wolf Pack award, which recognizes heart and dedication to the team. This year, the honor was bestowed upon Knighthawks transition man Andrew Suitor.
“He is the ultimate team guy and will do whatever it takes to win,” said Knighthawks defenseman Paul Dawson.
In 2017, Suitor posted one goal, two assists and 43 loose balls in his first season in Rochester. The 28-year-old also played in 12 games, which doubled the number he played in the previous season. Suitor’s teammates noticed the hard work it took for him to return from an injury.
“He’s out there taking care of himself and getting better each and every day so he can continue playing lacrosse,” said Knighthawks defenseman Scott Campbell. “Guys were impressed by his work ethic and determination.”
The Orangeville, Ontario native was acquired by the Knighthawks on August 15, 2016 in exchange for Derek Searle and two draft picks. He made his Knighthawks debut on Jan. 28 and netted his first goal in a Rochester uniform on Feb. 11.
“The body feels great,” said Suitor. “Obviously, you want to play in every game, but a nagging injury from last year is what held me out of the first couple of games. I am working to get better to make sure that I am ready to go, not only on a big regular season run, but to go on a big playoff run.”
Playing in his seventh season in the league, the former NLL Transition Player of the Year was a vocal leader on the field and added more grit to the Rochester defense. Coming to a place where he had always wanted to play made 2017 a memorable season.
“Like I said when I came here, I was happy to finally be a part of Rochester,” he said. “I can’t say enough about this team. It was one of those seasons where you didn’t want it to be over. At times things didn’t go according to plan, but it was a lot of fun to be around these guys.”
