Brian Gibbons has goal, assist to help send Buffalo to its 13th straight road loss.

OTTAWA — Craig Anderson made 35 saves, and the Ottawa Senators handed the Buffalo Sabres their 13th straight loss on the road, 4-0 at Canadian Tire Centre on Tuesday.

It was Anderson’s second shutout of the season and 42nd of his NHL career. He is second on the all-time Senators shutout list with 28, two behind Patrick Lalime (1999-2004).

The Sabres have not won on the road since a 5-4 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 29 (0-11-2).

Brian Gibbons had a goal and an assist and Thomas Chabot had two assists for Ottawa (27-43-6), which won for the fifth time in 18 games (5-12-1).

Carter Hutton made 27 saves for Buffalo (31-36-9), which lost for the 11th time in 12 games (1-10-1).

The Senators and Sabres have already been eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention.

Anthony Duclair scored with a backhand shot at the edge of the crease to give the Senators a 1-0 lead at 17:07 of the first period. Gibbons redirected a slap pass from Christian Jaros to make it 2-0 at 19:49.

Left alone in front of the net, Rudolfs Balcers tucked the puck under Hutton’s right pad on the power play to make it 3-0 at 5:54 of the third period. Magnus Paajarvi one-timed a pass from Christian Wolanin into an open net to make it 4-0 at 7:24.

*NOTES — The Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday announced the team has recalled defenseman Will Borgen from the Rochester Americans. Borgen (22, 6-foot-2, 188 lbs.), who is currently in his first full professional season, joins the Sabres for his first career recall. The Moorhead, MN., native has appeared in 74 career AHL games with the Americans, posting 12 points (2+10) and a plus-7 rating in 66 games this season. Selected by Buffalo in the fourth round (92nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Borgen signed a 3-year, entry-level contract with the Sabres in March of 2018 after completing his collegiate career with St. Cloud State. He recorded 41 points (5+36) in 106 NCAA games and was named NCHC Best Defensive Defenseman as a senior. Internationally, Borgen captured a bronze medal with the United States at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship and was one of four collegiate players to be named to the 2018 United States Olympic Men’s Hockey Team…The Sabres also announced the team signed defenseman Casey Fitzgerald to a 2-year, entry-level contract with an AAV of $925,000. Fitzgerald will sign an ATO and report to the Amerks. The entry-level contract will begin starting with the 2019-20 season. Fitzgerald (22, 5-11, 186 lbs.) recently finished his senior season at Boston College (Hockey East), where he recorded 82 points (17+65) in 151 career games and served as captain during the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. The Sabres selected Fitzgerald in the third round (86th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft after a 27-point freshman season at Boston College that earned him Hockey East All-Rookie honors.
