ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Americans announced on Thursday that the team has signed forward Kyle Bonis to a Professional Tryout contract.
Bonis, 27, has appeared in 7 contests with the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL this season. A native of Lindsay, Ontario, Bonis currently leads the Walleye in goals (5) and points (10) this season after splitting the 2015-16 campaign between the AHL’s San Diego Gulls and Walleye, appearing in 32 games for each club. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound forward posted 25 points (14+11) with the Walleye before adding 10 (4+6) points on a professional tryout with the Gulls to finish the season.
Bonis makes his fifth stop in the American Hockey League, having compiled 12 points (5+7) in 44 games for Norfolk, Charlotte, Grand Rapids, and San Diego.
Prior to turning pro, Bonis played four years at Ferris State University (CCHA), where he picked up 77 points (47+30) in 136 career games for the Bulldogs. As a senior in 2012-13, he scored 27 points (19+8) and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award while serving as team captain.
