ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Rochester Americans are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Hans Tanner former team reporter and charter member of the Amerks Hall of Fame.

The original Amerks hockey writer for the Democrat and Chronicle, Tanner covered Rochester’s AHL hockey team from its inception in 1956 to the conclusion of the 1976-77 season, when he retired to devote more time to his antiques business in Livingston County.

He also even served as the official statistician for the American Hockey League.

Tanner never missed a home game while covering the Amerks during that period. In 1966, Tanner was awarded the AHL’s James. H Ellery Award for his outstanding coverage of the Amerks and the AHL.
