UTICA, N.Y. — For the third consecutive game, the Rochester Americans were involved in a shootout on Saturday night. The Amerks prevailed twice, but on this night Eric Cornel was unable to be the hero as Rochester lost to the Utica Comets, 3-2.
Cornel was the third shootout shooter for the Amerks, but for the first time in the last 3 games he did not score. Cornel scored the winning goal Wednesday against the Comets and Friday versus the Hershey in the shootout.
Utica scored on its second round against Adam Wilcox to win the shootout, 1-0, and the game, 3-2.
The Comets tallied a pair of goals 84 seconds apart midway through the second stanza to take a 2-0 lead.
The Amerks battled back in the third period to tie the game. Sahir Gill netted his fourth goal of the season to put Rochester on the scoreboard 2:35 into the period. Brendan Guhle and Zach Redmond assisted on the play.
Guhle then knotted the contest 2:13 later on a power play. C.J. Smith and Steve Moses drew assists.
Wilcox finised the game with 35 saves, many of the spectacular nature as he was named the third Star of the Game.
The Amerks continue their road trip next weekend in their first-ever visit to Belleville, Ont, take on the Ottawa Senators new AHL affiliate in games Friday and Saturday night.
The teams returns to the Blue Cross Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 15 against the Binghamton Devils.
