Rochester squanders a 2-0 lead and falls to the IceCaps, 5-3.
The Rochester Americans were unable to hold the lead against the St. John’s IceCaps on Friday night as the hosts rallied for 3 third-period goals to pull out a 5-3 victory.
The Amerks jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the first period on goals from Evan Rodriguez and Justin Bailey.
However, the IceCaps battled back to knot the count with a goal late in the first period and scored the equalizer midway through the second stanza.
Rodriguez put Rochester back in front with a power play goal in the final minute of the second period.
But the third period belonged to St. John’s as the IceCaps outshot the Amerks 19-7 and scored 3 times to garner the victory.
Rochester was outshot 40-34 by St. John’s as Amerks goalie Jason Kasdorf made 35 saves.
The Amerks and IceCaps play again on Saturday with a 6 p.m. faceoff in Newfoundland.
