William Carrier and Nick Baptiste lead Rochester with 2 goals apiece.

The Rochester Americans got and maintained the lead against the St. John’s IceCaps on Saturday evening with a 5-2 victory to earn a split in their weekend series in Newfoundland.

William Carrier gave the Amerks a 1-0 early in the first period with a short-handed goal, but IceCaps tied it late in the period against goalie John Muse, who finished with 32 saves in his debut with Rochester.

Cole Schneider put the Amerks back in front with a power play tally 1:03 into the second stanza, off an assist from Alex Nylander and Taylor Fedun.

Carrier netted his second power play goal late in the period for a 3-1 Rochester lead.

However, St.John’s scored about 2 minutes before Nick Baptiste regained the 2-goal advantage for the Amerks, 4-2. Baptiste scored into the empty net in the final minute to secure the victory.

Erik Burgdoerfer, Evan Rodrigues, Cal O’Reilly, and Schneider each picked up one assist for the Amerks.

Rochester improved to 4-3 on the season.

The Amerks begin the first of two consecutive 3-in-3 weekends on Friday night, Nov. 4, against the Syracuse Crunch in a 7:05 faceoff at the Blue Cross Arena.

The Buffalo Sabres on Saturday announced the team has assigned goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Rochester Americans.
