Justin Bailey and Linus Ullmark rejoin and lead the team to a 3-2 victory over Toronto.
TORONTO, ONTARIO — The Rochester Americans continued their domination over the Toronto Marlies this season with a 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Ricoh Coliseum. The win was the Amerks 5th in 6 games this season over the Marlies.
Forward Justin Bailey and goalie Linus Ullmark, both of whom were re-assigned to the Amerks by the parent Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, combined to lead Rochester to the 1-goal victory.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, despite outshooting the Marlies 15-13 in the first period, Casey Nelson tied the game early in the second stanza with his fourth goal of the season. Tim Kennedy assisted on the play.
Bailey, who was re-assigned to the Amerks by the Buffalo Sabres earlier in the day, intercepted an errant pass near the top of the Marlies zone, and after taking a few strides, he sniped his 14th goal of the season for Rochester with 4:46 left in the period.
The unassisted tally extended Bailey’s goal streak to five straight games dating back to Dec. 17, and also pushed his career-long point streak (6+3) to six games.
As the Marlies emerged with the puck from behind their own cage, Dan Catenacci was able to pick the pocket of a Toronto defenseman, thanks to an aggressive forecheck, forcing a turnover just inside the blueline.
Similar to his tally in the middle frame, Bailey found the loose puck but this time sent a cross-crease pass to Jean Dupuy, who buried the eventual game-winning goal with 4:50 left in the contest. The goal was Dupuy’s first since Apr. 16 of last season after missing the first 30 games of this season with an injury.
The Marlies scored 49 seconds later to make it a one-goal difference, 3-2.
Rochester goalie Linus Ullmark, who also was re-assigned by the Sabres on Saturday, recorded 37 saves, 16 in the third period, in gaining the victory.
Dupuy also led the Amerks with 5 shots on goal as Cole Schneider, Nick Baptiste, Cal O’Reilly, Tyson Strachan, and Dan Catenacci each had 3 shots.
