The Bruins score the game-winner with 4 seconds left in regulation.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Providence Bruins scored with just 4 seconds remaining in regulation to pull out a 4-3 victory over the Rochester Americans here on Friday night.
The Amerks trailed the P-Bruins, 3-1, late in the third period. Amerks head coach Dan Lambert pulled goalie John Muse for the extra attacker with less than 1:45 left in regulation. Following a shot off the end boards from Casey Nelson, Justin Bailey pounced on the wide attempt and chipped the puck over the shoulder of Bruins goalie Anton Khudobin to make it a one-goal game with just 95 seconds showing on the clock.
Just 39 seconds later following a Rochester timeout, Bailey struck again, this time picking up a pass in-between the faceoff dots and ripping a shot inside the left post to tie the game at three with under a minute to play in regulation.
Despite Bailey’s late-game heroics, Chris Casto located a loose puck amid a goal-mouth scramble in front of Muse and jammed it behind Muse with 4 seconds left for his first goal of the season for the game-winner.
Providence took a 1-0 lead into the second period when Amerks defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer scored his first goal of the season, off assists from Paul Geiger and Nick Baptiste, to even the count.
However, about 3 minutes later the hosts regained the lead, and extended it to 3-1 with 2:55 to play in regulation.
Bailey tallied his 15th goal of the season to pull the Amerks to within one. Burgdoerfer and Nelson assisted on the goal. Bailey then netted the equalizer as Tim Kennedy and Hudson Fasching assisted on the play.
With the pair of tallies, Bailey upped his career-long goal-scoring streak to six straight games and his point streak (8-3) to a personal-best seven games.
Muse finished with 31 saves. The Amerks fired 27 shots on the Providence goal with Baptiste and Evan Rodrigues leading the way with 4 apiece.
The Amerks continue their 3-game weekend road trip to New England on Saturday night against the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Buffalo Sabres assigned goaltender Linus Ullmark to the Rochester Americans on Friday.
