Zach Redmond has recorded his post productive season in receiving the honor.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The American Hockey League announced on Thursday that Rochester Americans defenseman Zach Redmond has been named to the 2017-18 AHL Second All-Star Team.
The 29-year-old Redmond has posted his most productive season with the playoff-bound Amerks in 2017-18, easily setting career-highs in all offensive categories while leading team with 31 assists and 46 points in 63 games. The seventh-year pro currently ranks fourth amongst all AHL defensemen in points and is one of just three blueliners to lead his respective team in scoring this season.
A native of Traverse City, Mich., Redmond is also tied for second in goals by a defenseman with 15, including a team-best eight power-play tallies, and ranks fifth among all league defensemen in assists. Additionally, Redmond has the second-most shots among any other defenseman this season with 172. He’s also just three goals away from tying the single-season franchise record for the most goals by a defenseman of 18, set by Amerks Hall of Famer Rick Pagnutti during the 1972-73 campaign.
Originally a seventh-round selection (184th overall) of the Atlanta Thrashers in 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Redmond has amassed 146 points (44+102) in 253 career AHL games with Rochester, St. John’s, San Antonio and Chicago. He’s also totaled 38 points (9+29) in 133 NHL appearances, including three this season with the Buffalo Sabres.
