Governor Cuomo and State Economic Development Chief Howard Zemsky (photo) also attended an announcement by American Packaging Company in Rochester today, which is expanding into a new 350,000 square foot plant in Chili.
That means American Packaging is moving from Driving Park Avenue near Mt. Read Boulevard in Rochester, but staying in the Rochester area.
The company’s CEO says in June they were planning to move to a site in Iowa, close to the company’s other facilities. But Peter Schottland says that’s before they heard from the Cuomo Administration. The plan now is to invest $179 million over the next five years on Beaver Road in Chili. Schottland says it’s handy to highways and the airport, has railroad access and is convenient to the Rochester Institute of Technology.
He says it also keeps the 100 current employees and will allow them to expand to 300 with a goal of boosting output by nine percent.
Governor Cuomo says New York is putting in $14 million to help make it happen.
