The Monroe County Legislature last night approved a $25 million dollar price hike in the cost of the Greater Rochester International Airport renovation project, pushing the project cost to $79 million dollars.

County Spokesman Jesse Sleezer says the changes are mainly due to adding more state-of-the-art security features to the project and to the airport canopy that will cover the main entrance.

The project is being funded by state, federal and local government dollars, as well as the airport authority’s own money and a ticket surcharge that’s expected to bring in $25 million.
