New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says a judge has approved a settlement between his office and Total Tan, a tanning company with 25 locations across Upstate New York and Pennsylvania. Schneiderman says the company was making unwarranted health claims for its tanning service and failed to comply with state regulations.
Total Tan will pay $5,000 per day for any future misrepresentations and $500 per day for any violation of state laws on tanning businesses.
Schneiderman says Total Tan’s advertising and literature downplayed the risk of melanoma from indoor tanning lights and overstated the benefits of sun exposure.
