The New York State Attorney General’s Office late Friday released nine separate transcripts covering 45 hours of testimony in the case of Daniel Prude’s Death. The transcripts were released by order of a judge at AG Letitia James’ request.
The more than 1,200 pages of testimony show that prosecutors tried to charge three of the officers involved in restraining Daniel Prude the night he fell unconscious. He died a week later, never waking up. But the grand jurors voted 15-to-five not to indict.
Witness testimony began with Daniel Prude’s brother, Joe Prude, and covered all aspects of Daniel Prude’s trip from Chicago to Rochester, his mental health struggles, and his encounter with Rochester police that night more than a year ago.
The grand jury received more than 64 pieces of evidence and saw all the body camera footage of the Prude incident.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner testified it couldn’t be said that Prude was asphyxiated mainly due to the officer’s actions. Prude’s cause of death was ruled a homicide “because…it occurred at the hands of another.”
