New York Attorney General Letitia James filed suit this week against the operators of a nursing home in Albion, accusing them of financial fraud and neglecting their patients.
James said the Villages of Orleans Health and Rehabilitation Center in Albion misused more than $18 million in government funds to increase company profits, rather than to enhance staffing and patient care as they promised to do. She said the owners of the Villages failed their state-mandated duty to provide a high level of care and quality of life for residents. They cut staffing to increase their own personal profit, reducing levels of care to do so.
James seeks return of the money and appointment of a receiver and financial monitor to run the business and improve care. She also wants the Villages blocked from admitting new patients until further notice.
