Refugees from the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan are coming to Rochester. Monroe County and agencies including the Veterans Outreach Center and Catholic Family Center are reaching out to help them.
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello says he’s directed the county Veterans Service Agency to provide some benefits to Afghans who worked with the U.S. military during the 20-year Afghan war. The agencies will also help connect them with employment services and public assistance as needed.
As many as 200 Afghan refugees are expected in Monroe County by the end of the year.
