The City of Rochester has added “Adopt-a-Hydrant” to its list of winter snow tools…calling on citizens to pick one hydrant near their property and make sure it’s shoveled out after a heavy snow.
Mayor Lovely Warren says a neighborhood with sidewalks cleared and hydrants shoveled out shows everybody that people care about those streets. There’s an interactive fire hydrant map and other information about city snow removal online.
The city says it’s looking towards the first significant snowfall this week with 8,000 tons of road salt in its storage shed, but expects to use up to 25,000 tons before the end of the winter. Plow trucks are now equipped with GPS tracking so managers can make real-time adjustments for problem areas and city customer service agents can give callers a better idea of when the plows will get to them.
Plow Trax will also be displayed on the city’s web page so you can see the information in real time.
