Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn says a highly-detailed Active Shooter training exercise held overnight gave his department and Greece Police a chance to work together and test their systems and response.

First responders took over the Mt. Read Boulevard Wegmans in Greece from 11:00 until 6:30 p.m. Store employees and security took part along with AMR ambulance crews. Sheriff O’Flynn says it gave the officers, communications and emergency medical responders a chance to test their systems in something like actual practice.

O’Flynn says Wegmans was willing to let them use their building, and he says it was a “fairly realistic” scenario — enough that they put safety officers on the street to tell people it wasn’t an actual emergency.
