A second-alarm fire broke out at an abandoned hotel in Henrietta Sunday night. The Henrietta Fire Department responded about 5:30 p.m. to the former Vista Heights Inn on West Henrietta Road.

They found a pair of squatters had set up an apartment including Christmas lights in the building. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office charged 36-year-old Colleen Edwards and 39-year-old Nicholas Eckhardt with criminal trespassing. They were released on an appearance ticket.

Firefighters then had to search the entire building to make sure nobody else was inside. One firefighter was injured but did not need to be hospitalized.

The department says there was smoke damage to the second floor of the building and significant damage to the roof.
