The big right-hander leads the league with 11 wins this season.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Red Wings right-hander Aaron Slegers has been named the International League Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Slegers won both of his starts last week, allowing one run on eight hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts over a league-high 14.0 innings. He posted a 0.64 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and held opponents to a .167 average.

In his first start of the week in game two on July 17 vs. Charlotte, Slegers missed the strike zone with just 18 pitches en route to a 7.0-inning blanking of the Knights. He surrendered four hits and a walk while striking out five, needing only 74 pitches to complete his second career shutout.

Slegers earned his league-leading 11th win on Sunday vs. Toledo, allowing one run on four hits and a walk with seven strikeouts over 7.0 innings. The Mud Hens plated their lone run of the game with two outs in the 6th inning to snap Slegers’ scoreless stretch at 23.0 innings. He has now won seven consecutive starts.

For the season, the 6-foot-10 Indiana University product is 11-4 with a 3.35 ERA in 18 starts for the Red Wings. His ERA currently ranks sixth in the league.

This is the fourth IL Pitcher of the Week award for a Red Wing this season, joining Nik Turley and Jose Berrios twice. A Rochester pitcher has earned a weekly award a league-high 12 times since the beginning of 2015. Mitch Garver also earned league Batter of the Week earlier in 2017.
