A report from the New York State AAA finds driver inattention or distraction contributed to 150 fatal crashes across the state in 2015. It was the most common factor in all injury crashes.

The AAA analyzed DMV ticket data and found law enforcement officers issued about 217,000 cell phone or texting from the driver’s seat tickets that year. That’s six percent of all moving violations.

A national auto club survey taken last year found 11 percent of drivers admitted to reading email or texting while driving. The report says the best way to fight this dangerous behavior is law enforcement working together with local governments on localized distracted driving education campaigns.
