The Founding Fathers are turning over in their graves with the way today’s mainstream media is functioning.
The outright bias of the press spurns its obligation to inform the public about government corruption, when and where it occurrs. That obligation was designed by the Founding Fathers for “the Fourth Estate” to carry out.
Thomas Jefferson was one of the biggest proponents of a free press. When it came to holding government accountable, the author of the Declaration of Independence believed the ability to investigate government leaders was vital to liberty.
“A censured press is the tool of a corrupt minority. A free press is a symbol of a free people. Truth is freedom, and without truth there can only be slavery and degradation.” – Julius Reuter in A Dispatch from Reuters
A. Graber argues that “the U.S. Constitution insulates the press from government control for two major reasons: 1) It would keep citizens informed about politics, and 2) it would act as a watchdog over government activities, alerting the citizenry to governmental wrongdoing, if that became necessary.”
Leonard W. Levy, author of Emergence of a Free Press, said that “Freedom of the press meant that the press had achieved a special status as an unofficial fourth branch of government, ‘the Fourth Estate,’ whose function was to check the three official branches (notably, the executive, the legislative, and the judicial) by exposing misdeeds and policies contrary to the public interest.”
Levy added that “some theorists contend that a free press, by virtue of its watchdog function, also served as the matrix for the perpetuation of all other personal liberties protected by the Bill of Rights.
“Additionally, freedom of the press had come to mean that the system of popular government could not effectively operate unless the press discharged its obligations to the electorate by juding officeholders and candidates for office.”
Jeremy Tunstall, author of The Media Are American, said that “the free-press clause made the United States the first nation in the world to detach its press from official machinery of government.”
Unfortunately, over the past several decades, the press has corrupted itself by NOT living up to being the watchdog over government activities. The press has become biased and a lapdog of the Democrat Party, thus spurning its obligation to inform the public, as set out by the Founding Fathers.
Judicial Watch and Wikileaks have filled that void created by the media, which is NOT doing the job “the Fourth Estate” was obligated to do. Thus Judicial Watch and Wikileaks are the new watchdogs over government.
The American public is losing its freedom as a biased press is not informing the public of government wrongdoings, as this clip demonstrates.
We at C&C Worldwide always will strive to follow “the Fourth Estate’s” obligation, as envisioned by the Founding Fathers.
We implore our fellow members of the media to join us in this daunting and responsible task, before it is too late and we LOSE not only freedom of the press, but freedom of speech as well.
The press needs to alter its ways and fulfill its obligation to the electorate, as envisioned by the Founding Fathers.
The national media’s trustworthyness with the public is at an all-time low! What other result would you expect when the press throws its lot in with corrupt government officials and politicans!
You know what they say about insanity – doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. That’s the state of the current national media.
The press needs to drop its bias and become the watchdogs that the Founding Fathers meant them to be. The media needs to fulfill its OBLIGATION to the electorate by informing the public about government corruption!
The media needs to inform the electorate of the truth, for a change, and save our Republic from becoming a third world dictatorship!
