Nine former Bay Trail Middle School and Penfield High School students have been arrested in connection with the August incident involving a fall through a skylight at the middle school.
The nine are all men in their late teens, and all are charged with third degree criminal trespass for being on the school grounds. They include William Laing, who was critically injured when he fell nearly 30 feet to the gymnasium floor below. He has since recovered.
Because Laing was in the hospital for a long period of time and the numerous suspects, it took until this past week to file charges, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the friend who was on the skylight with Laing, smoking marijuana, called 911 when his friend fell through the glass and stayed on scene to direct first responders. They say without that, Laing would likely have died.
