There’s a fifth candidate who wants to be mayor of Rochester.

Retired city school teacher Lori Thomas announced over the weekend that she’s running as an independent, saying “Democrats control the poverty in the city and Republicans control wealth in the suburbs.” She says city voters need to control themselves.

Thomas says she wants to encourage city home ownership, community gardens and police reform. She says there’s enough tax base to support Rochester services if money isn’t thrown away on “political pandering.”

There are three Democrats including Mayor Lovely Warren seeking that party’s nomination, plus Green Party candidate Alex White already running for mayor.
