Monroe County set a new record high number of new coronavirus cases on Monday: 541 people testing positive for the virus. The Monroe County Department of Health says 328 people have died of the disease. That’s 11 new deaths since Sunday. The seven-day rolling average rate of new cases is now 404 per day.

There have been 15,296 total cases in Monroe County since the pandemic began. 404 people were hospitalized across the Finger Lakes region on Monday. 69 of those were in the ICU.

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and County Health Director Dr. Michael Mendoza said the county has reached a ‘tipping point,’ and announced new guidelines for hospital monitoring and school testing in line with those announced by Governor Cuomo.

Dr. Mendoza says the future depends on our actions, and taking seriously the request not to gather in private homes which has been spreading the virus. He said the newly-announced numbers don’t yet factor in the expected surge in cases from Thanksgiving gatherings.
