From Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning, gunfire was a frequent background to the other sounds of Rochester.
One man was killed when gunfire erupted in a parking lot outside a Monroe Avenue bar at closing time. Police say 20 to 30 people were hanging out in the parking lot when the shots were fired and 31-year-old Ernest Wood was hit. He died shortly after arriving at Strong Memorial Hospital.
A few hours earlier, another Rochester man was shot and killed at Flower City Park and Primrose Street near the Flower City Cathedral. Police found 42-year-old Keegan Whitely on the ground and he was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving measures from police and civilians. Police say the victim was chased down Flower City Park and shot by an unknown assailant.
Police are looking for tips on both crimes, to either 911 or Crime Stoppers.
Additionally, a 22-year-old man was shot and wounded on Lincoln Street early Sunday morning and was treated at Strong Memorial. A 17-year-old was shot and wounded near Emerson and Santee Streets on the West Side Saturday afternoon. The victim is recovering. And just after midnight, another 17-year-old was shot at a house party on Oneida Street and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. He’s also recovering.
