The final suspect in the plot to attack a Muslim community in the Southern Tier was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison.

Vincent Vetromile is 20. He pleaded guilty to charges of planning to attack the Islamberg community with homemade bombs along with three other defendants, all of whom also pleaded guilty.

Judge Sam Valleriani called Vetromile’s actions “a threat to everyone in our free and democratic society.”

Defense Attorney Stephen Sercu says they were operating on the mistaken belief that Islamberg was a terrorist enclave. Prosecutor Matthew Schwarz says he’s satisfied with the outcome.
