A fourth defendant in the University of Rochester kidnapping case has taken a plea deal. Elliot Rivera has pled guilty on two counts of second degree kidnapping, and in exchange will serve 35 years in prison.
Today was the deadline for three of the suspects to plead guilty or go to trial. Samantha Hughes, Leah Gigliotti, Jesus Castro-Ubiles and now Rivera agreed to the DA’s offers.
Ruth Lora, Inalia Rolldan and Dennis Perez refused the offers and will go to trial on October 31st.
All are accused of taking part in a plan to lure two UR students off campus to a house where they were held for 40 hours while being beaten, robbed and tortured. It’s believed they were mistaken for two other students the plotters thought had stolen drugs from them.
