A new Siena Poll finds that about one out of every eight New Yorkers has received food from a local pantry or meals program at least once over the last year, and 17 percent have received government food assistance like WIC or Food Stamps.
The poll finds that large majorities of New Yorkers say lower income people in their areas face at least some challenges with food and hunger, particularly being able to afford more nutritious food and how to plan healthy meals.
The Siena College Research Institute found that 45 percent of all New Yorkers donated to a hunger-focused charity last year, and 19 percent donated their time.
