The State Education Department says Rochester’s high school graduation rate improved from 2012 to 2013, going from about 48 percent to nearly 52 percent. That’s an improvement of more than four percentage points.

All of the state’s “Big 5” city school districts except for Syracuse reported improvements, with Rochester and Yonkers posting the biggest. The goal is to have 80 percent of students graduating by August of their fourth year in high school.

The statewide graduation rate went from just below 80 percent to just above. Rochester remains about 28 points below the statewide rate.
