The third suspect to go on trial in the shootings nearly two years ago at the Boys and Girls Club on Genesee Street has been found not guilty on all charges.

Michael Mathis was accused with Jalen Everett and Johnny Blackshell Jr of staging the drive-by shooting that killed three young men and injured four other people in 2015. Of the three, only Blackshell was convicted of actually firing the shots from a semi-automatic rifle and sentenced to life in prison. Everett was at first convicted, but the verdict was overturned because of jury misconduct. Everett’s second trial ended in a “not guilty” verdict.

Michael Mathis was also facing murder and weapons charges. His trial was delayed until this month because his attorney was diagnosed with cancer and needed surgery.

The jury in his case began deliberating on Wednesday and came back shortly before midday on Thursday, also with a “not guilty” verdict.
