About 3,000 people showed up around the Kodak Tower on State Street in Rochester this evening toting flash lights and camera flash units, helping light up the iconic Rochester building for the annual RIT “Big Shot.”

Each year, the Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences organizes a photo shoot of an iconic subject somewhere in the world. This year they decided to stay close to home and turn their cameras on the 19 story Kodak headquarters. About 200 students and a hundred or more alums help position and direct the volunteers to “paint the subject with light” using the equipment they’ve brought.

Nikon supplies the high-end digital cameras they use to capture the image, and details even include temporarily moving utility poles to get a better shot.
