A three-year-old child was shot and critically injured while sitting in his child seat Wednesday night when a gunfight broke out on North Clinton Avenue.
Rochester Police Chief David Smith says officers were called to North Clinton Avenue and Scrantom Avenue about 6:00 p.m. when at least two people began shooting at each other across the street. Caught in the middle was a car which had stopped so a parent could run into the Clinton Grocery. That car, the parents and the child were caught in the crossfire.
Officers chased one of the suspects to a home on Sullivan Street where they took several people into custody and seized two handguns.
The boy was first taken by private car to Rochester General Hospital, then brought by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital. He was in surgery Wednesday night with critical injuries.
Police are doing a late morning update on this situation
