After a day off on Saturday and Friday’s practice taking place at New Era Field in Orchard Park, the Buffalo Bills returned to their training camp home at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford.

Prior to practice, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott announced that wide receiver Zay Jones would make his 2018 debut after missing the first eight days of training camp and spring practices.

Jones had knee surgery that he was still recovering from, despite being placed on the non-football injury list. The Bills appear to be phasing Jones in slowly. He wore a red non-contact jersey on Sunday.

While running, it didn’t appear Jones was favoring any injury.

It’s a good sign that Jones returned and he didn’t favor anything at all while working. His non-contact jersey shouldn’t stay on for long.

The Bills could use him opposite of Kelvin Benjamin as well.

Third safety for first-team

Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer will be your starting safeties when the 2018 Bills hit the field, but Rafael Bush is an interesting player in the secondary. He has the versatility that McDermott covets and it was on display on Sunday.

Bush spent time at the nickel corner position.

Bush’s versatility and experience the eight-year veteran has makes him close to a lock to make the team’s final 53-man roster. He also can contribute on special teams.

Tough day for Allen

AJ McCarron was back to taking snaps with the starters after Nathan Peterman did on Friday. Rookie Josh Allen stayed with the third-team defense and had one of his tougher days.

Allen started off with a throw into double coverage and then a sack. His inaccuracy showed throughout the day.

Even when Allen put together a few good throws, he was inconsistent.

The good news is, it seems to be either McCarron or Peterman who have the pressure to be the starter on opening day. Allen can take things from a tough day like Sunday and learn from it. He’ll be ready… when he’s ready.
