New York State Police say a wrong way driver caused a crash that killed him and two other people on the State Thruway between exits 44 and 43.
Troopers say an 81-year-old Ohio man who had been reported missing entered the Thruway in the wrong direction from the Clifton Springs rest stop. They say he drove west in the eastbound lanes for about eight minutes before crashing into an oncoming car. That car held four men returning to New York City from Niagara Falls. Both drivers were killed, along with one of the passengers in the other car. The remaining two passengers are being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital.
The crash happened early Tuesday morning.
