Monroe County’s Health Commissioner, Dr. Michael Mendoza, says we’re in a second surge of COVID-19, and it’s caused by citizens failing to exercise caution with the disease.

Mendoza says we have more than 850 active cases, more than three times the number in the county just a month ago. At an online briefing, Mendoza tied the increase to people holding small gatherings at their homes or other locations without masks or social distancing, spreading the virus. He says we’re going to weddings and parties without staying at least six feet apart and with out our masks on.

Mendoza says everyone wants to get back to normal, but we can’t afford “COVID Fatigue” and to ignore the safety rules.
